We haven’t approached a legislator in a long time. It’s time to try again, this time with a twist.
We have approached various city councils with some success. The city of La Mesa gave us a ferret legalization proclamation. Encinitas didn’t do so after members of the Sierra Club showed up to talk about rabbits in Australia.
Assemblywoman Marie Waldron is newly elected to the newly drawn 75th Assembly District. Below is the best map I could find of the newly drawn district.
There are two incorporated cities in the 75th Assembly Disrrict, Poway and Santee.
What if we could get those two city councils going on record asking Assemblywoman Marie Waldron to introduce some sort of bill to protect the rights of California ferret owners?
Here’s our argument:
- Domestic Animals are Legal Per the California Civil Code
- Domestic Ferrets are Domestic Animals
- The California Fish and Game Commission classifies domestic ferrets are “not normally domesticated in the state of California” without any documentation as how they arrived at that conclusion
- The Fish and Game Commission also classified four species of bumble bees as fish to achieve environmental protections, thus ignoring science
Imagine the fun we can have making this case to two conservative city councils.
But we need people. Without residents of these two cities to get up and be counted, it won’t work. So if you live in Poway or Santee and are willing to help, please step forward!
