Heavy sigh. I received a letter from my State Senator. Brian Jones, where he comes out against ferrets. Senator Jones is one of the few ethical legislators I’ve dealt with and that he bought Fish and Game’s line is disappointing.
Usually our opponents come from the left. “Pets are animal slavery.” “Ferrets ad to global warming.” I’m not kidding here.
But Fish and Game has their whole spiel about ferrets being wild animal, not native to California and a potential invasive species. They refuse to reconsider this position which has proven false upon every examination. If you were a State Senator, who would you believe, a group of dedicated ferret owners or the various state agencies he listed. I did think he was more skeptical of government power, but not in our case.
But still kudos to him. He gave us a real answer. Unlike Assemblyman Seyarto who talked to us during the campaign only to have his legislative director send us a one sentence email saying “Nope, ain’t gonna help you.”
This furthers the point that politicians aren’t going to help us. It takes a lot of stamina to keep going, but when you’re right – we can’t give up!
